B105: Overview of Everything Thus Far..

1. We can't co-organise the imu ball because the president said that profit-making is not the aim of the event; furthermore, the committee has been elected.

However, do be on the lookout for dresses and suits for tis' the season to be jolly (over the sales =p)!

2. We need to agree on a mechanism to carry all the fund-raising projects from sem 6 onwards.

A suggestion from Alan is to divide the class into groups according to their friends. Each group is required to carry out at least a fund-raising projects. The fund-raising projects will span over the sem, hence there is a need for the leaders of each group to have discussion so that the dates of projects won't clash.

I have conveyed this idea to a few people and so far the response is good. The reasons being that:
a) You work better with your own group of friends.
b) Sleeping partners are unavoidable, but if  the culprit is in the group of their friends, he/she is more likely to give co-operation.
c) Smaller groups can combine among themselves and carry out a project if the project is on a bigger scale.

So.. what do you think?

3. Do you think we need a committee to oversee the projects? Should this committee be the same as the committee for the editorial board? The selection of the editorial board should ideally take place in the first week of sem6, for as the time goes, we are more likely to be bounded by workloads. Also, we need time to plan for the potential money-making events i.e. Chinese New Year and also Valentines' Day.

4) Alex and group is so semangat about fund-raising that they are starting them this holz. If all goes well (I am concerned about the legality issue and how some ppl will kacau us), they will be selling sprays, glow sticks on count-down days and also the coming concert at Bkt Jalil this Sat. That's the spirit man!

I was thinking, we can just spray ourselves if someone thinks we are selling the supply T_T (syiok sendiri, we can claim ourselves to be). I will talk to Alex for more details as I am interested in helping out on Christmas eve.

5. In case u are wondering, why should we dedicate our time for the projects? Can't we just pay RM80 each? (one convo mag is about that price, as told to me by the editor of current medic sem 5)

Wai chiat said that we should emulate our mpharm seniors, who didn't need to pocket a SINGLE CENT for their convo mag. Ofcuz since we are bpharmers, we don't have all the time in the world. Thus it would be great if we just put in our best.

The convo mag is about what we have been through, and the process of making the convo mag works (the projects that we carry out) will be the contents of the convo mag (pics of you selling things and having fun instead of being a nerd in the library, for instance).

Let's put in effort to create our own fond memories!

Meanwhile, be on the lookout for ideas as you go about shopping or painting the town red on count-down days. Have a blessed Christmas and New Year celebration b4 we embrace sem6.^_^

Updates on Fund-raising Activities

Hi everyone,

I have called the imu ball president and enquired about the ball. It seems that for each imu ball, there is NO PROFIT as what he told me. The ball commitee has to find sponsorship etc to make up for the cost of the ball as SAD doesn't provide funds for the event.

THe president has offered to email me the updates of each meeting so our batch will be kept updated from time to time. He welcomes our representative (hoon hing) to sit in the meeting but I guess hh will decide if it is necessary. ^_^

Although the idea of co-organisation can't be implemented, we b105 can still let our creative juices flow during this holz, and come up with ideas!

B105 Unite!

Hey everyone,

I am sure u all are enjoying the holz as much as I do, after all, when sem 6 kicks in, we won't have as much time to do what we like to do and sleep as much as we would love to. ^_^

Just as sem 6 will get busier, and sem 7 will see us being physically separated (some will go to seremban, some will come to imu in different time, depending on the research project) and sem 8 will see us dedicating more time to hospital attachment (thus seeing each other less), this holz is the BEST TIME for us to think about FUND-RAISING for our CONVOCATION MAGAZINE.

Yearbook

Yes, we need to put 70+ of our brains together and plan now, so that when week 1 starts, we can get the commitee set up, and individual groups to start planning for projects. Why can't we wait till sem 6 starts to plan?? WHY???

This is because:
1. A lot of money-making opportunites are right after we start sem 6- Chinese New Year, Valentines' Day... So if we don't have a plan by then, we will miss those opportunities altogether.

2. Work will start pouring in, typical of Bpharm, if we don't start early, before we know it, we will end up like our seniors. (Alan senior gave us an advice to start early, in fact, he said something like 'sem 6 is already a bit late; I wished my batch started earlier.' Thanks Alan!)

3. This point is very important, for I need everyone's opinion.  The next IMU ball president has been elected, and he is Yong De Jun, currently in  Medic Sem 4 (will be in Sem 5 next year).

Based on the success of IMu Charity Run cum Carnival (joint effort by medic and pharm students), I have this suggestion that let the upcoming IMu ball be a joint effort by medic and pharm students, and the profits will be shared.

'imu ball is usually done by medic sem5, but this year it was organised by the graduating batches - medic sem5 and mpharm sem5. the profits usually go towards convomag for the graduating batches. as to what batch gets the money, i dunno, but i guess if it's a shared organising effort, the profits should be shared.' This is what I found out from a medic student in current sem 5 who is involved in the convo mag.

By the way, the cost of a convo magazine is about RM80 for the current sem 5 batch. So we will want to try to earn as much $ as possible, and the remainder will be forked out from our pocket. MOney aside, it is the process of organising those fund-raising projects that you will look back with fond memories in future. In fact, those pics of u guys getting involved in our Msian studies project will be put down in convo mag.

So far no bpharm has been in the committee. This is because, well, we are the 2nd batch.. From what you all have learnt above, the ball is usually organised by medic sem 5 (coz they are having their 'semi graduation' before they proceed to seremban clinical school/PMS).

Why can't we wait till sem 8 then? Well, we need the funds for our convo mag, and our convo mag SHOULD be ready by sem 8. Thus, we need to get it done before that, hence the need of our involvement in sem 6.

I am proposing this to u guys because I feel that ball is a chance to make relatively more profits (compared to food sale etc) and it would be great if we are involved in organising a ball which we will attend. We WILL attend it, won't we? Because none of us (except sasha) has attended the IMu ball ever since we came to IMU, and we would want to attend this time round because we would want our convo mag to be filled with ball pictures, wouldn't we?

If you are thinking 'I wanna go for our graduation ball..my pics will be there' then u are wrong! The convo mag must be completed before sem 8, unless in sem 8 we can find time to dedicate ourselves in producing the convo mag amidst preparing for the OSCE where ZERO mistake is required.

So what is ur thought on this proposal? If u guys would love to be involve, then we will have to contact the SAD and the president and see if the IMU ball can be co-organised.

Oops, I did digress a bit. The other purpose of this post is to ask you all to think of idea for the fund-raising projects, since during holz, we are more relaxed..so I hope the sight of things as you guys travel/lepakl can inspire some ideas ^_^

We broke the tradition once by being the first bpharm team to join cheerleading, it can be done if you guys are up to it!!

Do leave your comments here/ on msn ya!! Happy holz!

We do NOT want our convo mag to end up like this (like some company annual's report *yawn*), do we? So put on your thinking caps! (also time to look out for prom dresses and suits!) In B105 I trust =D
